The Obsidian Series
The Obsidian Series
I have always loved making new things. When you think of a traditional wedding ring, your immediate thought is, there is only so much you can do, but by using different shapes, materials, finishes and a dash of creativity, I’ve been able to create some of the most striking pieces of jewelry.
The Obsidian Series is a series of rings I designed based primarily on how obsidian sheers and flakes. The shape of the obsidian rings is a faceted ring design but in a more naturally occurring way. It’s important that it feels and looks more natural than perfectly symmetrical.
Shaping Process
To shape the obsidian rings we have a couple different methods depending on which material we use. We start with a base ring cut from solid material. After we have the base ring, we facet each one by hand to give it a unique, natural shape. After we get the facet, then we buff and polish it to a final finish. Each ring is shaped slightly differently making each ring one of one.
Materials
The important part of what I do is I take a traditional design, in this case the faceted ring, and make it something that I would wear myself. That’s why I designed obsidian rings from opal, carbon fiber, timascus (titanium damascus), damascus steel, mokume, superconductor and more.
I hope you love what I designed and you find a ring that speaks to you.
