Rose Gold Vs Yellow Gold Engagement Rings

Gold has an intrinsic value which many people are drawn to. It's the precious metal of precious metals. It's shiny, valuable, and scarce. It's simple and makes for a perfect engagement ring or wedding band. If you have settled on getting a gold ring, there are a few decisions you will need to make in regards to the standard yellow gold, rose gold (pink gold), or white gold. We're here to settle the debate of rose gold vs yellow gold engagement rings.

Yellow gold has historically been one of the most popular choices, but rose gold has certainly been taking the world by storm even surpassing the popularity of white gold. Choosing between a classic ring that has proven itself to be a favorable piece of jewelry throughout history or one that puts a beautiful twist on tradition can be a rather crucial decision to make, especially when it comes to the very ring that will surely change your lives forever. You want all your bases covered, and while we absolutely love rose gold wedding bands, we're here to give you the run down on everything rose gold vs yellow gold and hopefully can help you decide whether a yellow gold or a rose gold ring is a perfect match for you.

Rose Gold vs Yellow Gold Engagement Rings

The Meteorite and Carbon Fiber Ring with Gold Liner can be made with either Rose Gold or Yellow Gold

Gold rings are not made from solid gold as solid gold is too soft alone. Gold must be combined with other metals to form an alloy to increase its quality and durability. So, what's the difference between a rose gold vs yellow gold ring? Is rose gold as valuable as yellow gold?

The main difference between rose gold vs yellow gold is their composition. Yellow gold is composed of gold, copper, and silver. Rose gold differs from yellow gold in that it contains significantly more copper. The significant amount of copper is what gives the rosy-pink color of rose gold. Both rose gold and yellow gold are essentially worth the same as long as they contain the same amount of gold.

Unlike copper, rose gold will not tarnish and is hypoallergenic. This makes rose gold a great choice for those who love the rosy-pink tones of copper but have allergies related to copper or other metals.

Rose Gold vs Yellow Gold: Skin Tone

When figuring out Rose Gold vs Yellow Gold engagement rings, you'll want to consider how the gold goes with your skin tone

Still unsure between rose gold vs yellow gold engagement rings? What color gold is best for an engagement ring? Finding the types of gold that perfectly match your skin tone can help you make that final decision. You want a gold ring that accentuates your natural beauty and compliments your general style. There is no need to strictly follow these tips; you know your body and which colors match you best, so choosing a color should, at the end of the day, be solely based on your personal preferences!

Yellow gold matches well with any skin tone but in particular, with lighter skin tones. Complexions with light skin tones match significantly well with yellow gold jewelry as the warm golden color balances out your naturally light tone.

Rose gold matches all types of skin tones but in particular, it matches well with warmer and darker skint ones. Its soft pinkish color is a good balance between warm and cool, allowing it to compliment both cool skin tones and warm skin tones  with no problem! Its ability to match any type of skin tone is precisely the reason why rose gold, as a color, has undeniably made an impact in the beauty industry as a whole--in jewelry, makeup, and other accessories.

      10K, 14K, or 18K?

Once you decide on the color of gold you want, the next step is to figure out what is the difference between 10K, 14K, and 18K Gold? Gold karats are determined by the ratio of gold to other metals and add up to 24. The difference between these three are detailed below.

      • 10k gold rings and are the best option for those who want gold jewelry while being on a tight budget. Its relatively low purity means that there is quite enough room for stronger metals to boost its durability and longevity. However, because of this, you may notice that the 10k gold ring doesn’t have the same kind of heft and vibrance as compared to higher purity gold.
      • 14k gold rings are one of the more popular choices for gold rings. 90% of engagement and wedding rings are made out of 14k gold. 14k gold has a darker gold tone to it while still having a good ratio of other alloy metals to make it durable.
      • 18k gold rings are 75% pure, so it is no surprise that these rings are significantly more expensive than the previous 10k and 14k. Considering its purity level, 18k gold is not as durable as the 10k or 14k, but is still quite popular amongst consumers looking for an engagement ring or wedding band because of the vibrant and rich color of gold. We generally do not recommend any purity above 18k due to durability and scratch-resistant concerns.
