Hypoallergenic Wedding Bands

When picking out a wedding band, you don't want to purchase a ring that you are unable to wear due to a metal allergy. The last thing you want to worry about is whether or not your ring is going to cause an allergic reaction. Finding a ring that both fits your personality and lifestyle while also being hypoallergenic can get tricky. If you have a metal allergy or sensitive skin, the best thing you can do before purchasing a wedding ring is to educate yourself on which metals are hypoallergenic metals. Fortunately, Patrick Adair Designs offers a variety of options for you!

Is Tungsten a Hypoallergenic Metal?

Tungsten carbide rings have always been a popular choice for wedding rings and engagement rings. It's consistently one of our best selling materials. Jewelry grade tungsten-carbide consists of an alloy (mix of metals) which means that the exact composition varies from jeweler to jeweler. Patrick Adair Designs offers a tungsten carbide alloy that is 100% hypoallergenic. Tungsten is a great metal option for a men's wedding band because of its unique qualities: its extremely hard, scratch-resistant, and dense, making it one of the most durable metals. Tungsten also provides a heftiness that other metals, such as titanium band, would not. On top of all of that, tungsten polishes extremely well and is able to hold its beautiful luster over time.

Patrick Adair Designs offers an assortment of Tungsten rings as part of the Glowstone Series. If you are not a fan of tungsten, we offer a variety of other hypoallergenic metals and materials.

What Type of Metal is Hypoallergenic?

If something is hypoallergenic, it is relatively unlikely to cause an allergic reaction. Patrick Adair Designs offers a variety of hypoallergenic rings in a multitude of styles and materials:

  • Black Ceramic
  • Cobalt Chrome
  • Gold
  • Titanium
  • Tungsten-Carbide

What Kind of Ring Can You Wear If You Are Allergic to Metal?

Nickel allergies are becoming more and more common today. In the United States, about 36 percent of women under the age of 18 have a nickel or metal related allergy. If you have a nickel allergy, be sure to ask your jeweler whether any of their metals are nickel-bound. Fortunately, Patrick Adair Designs offers completely hypoallergenic metals that are nickel-free. You can read about some of our favorite hypoallergenic rings below:

Black Ceramic

Black Ceramic is a sleek material that makes for an incredible ring. It has a beautiful deep black color, is impressively hard, scratch-resistant, and surprisingly light. Ceramic is composed of titanium carbide which is titanium and a fixed number of carbon atoms. Ceramic rings are a nice alternative metal for those interested in a smooth and glossy black wedding band.

You can find some of our most unique rings with a Black Ceramic base like the Deep Space Ring or the Area 51 Ring. Both rings feature gorgeous contrasts between the lustrous blacks of the band and the vibrant colors of the inlay.

Cobalt Chrome

Our Cobalt Chrome alloy is 100% hypoallergenic. Cobalt chrome is a super-alloy often found in jet turbines and medical implants. It is similar to tungsten in that it is scratch-resistant, while also being much more resistant to cracking from hard impacts. It never oxidizes, making it a great choice for a ring that is meant to be worn every day. It also has an exceptionally white color similar to precious metals like platinum, but can be had at a more affordable price.

Our most popular ring, the Star Dust Ring, is housed in a shiny white Cobalt Chrome base.

Gold

Gold is a classic in jewelry and happens to be hypoallergenic. We offer it in 3 colors: white, rose, and yellow. These colors come from the other materials added into the gold. White gold is made of a mixture of pure gold and white metals. Rose gold is made by combining gold, copper, and silver. Yellow Gold is made by combining pure gold with zinc and copper. Pure gold is extremely soft which means its often mixed with other metals to make it harder (as well as more affordable).

Gold is standard ring material many people think of when they thing of a designer ring. While we offer few designs that are primarily gold, almost any ring imaginable is available with a gold liner. We offer meteorite, superconductor, or any other exotic ring with a gold liner, and can also even make our glowstone designs with a gold band.

Titanium

Titanium wedding bands are a popular choice in the wedding jewelry category. Titanium jewelry is extremely lightweight and hard. The lightweight properties of a titanium ring make it very comfortable and easy to wear. It is a strong and resistant metal while also being extremely affordable. Titanium rings can scratch, but not as easily as gold rings. Its silver-metallic color provides a beautiful polish, making it a particularly attractive option in the jewelry industry.

If titanium is your thing, be sure to checkout our custom Titanium Glowstone Rings. This is a way to get a truly unique piece of titanium jewelry.

Not interested in any metal rings? Pick between an assortment of rings in different materials and colors that happen to be hypoallergenic as well.

Carbon Fiber

Our Carbon Fiber rings have become a staple at Patrick Adair Designs. In fact, the very first ring sold by Patrick Adair Designs is the Pure Carbon Fiber Ring. Carbon fiber consists of multiple strands of the element Carbon. These fibers are incredibly strong making this material our lightest and strongest available. The other amazing thing about Carbon Fiber is that it has an awesome weave pattern, accentuated by its ability to have an extremely high polished and glossy finish.

Fordite

Fordite (Detroite or Motor City Agate) is old automotive paint which has hardened enough to be cut and polished. It is formed from buildup of layers of enamel paint slag on tracks and skids from where cars were hand spray-painted. Every Fordite Ring will have a one-of-a-kind pattern. The pattern is entirely dependent on where the ring is cut from the material itself.

Resin

Resin jewelry is composed of an epoxy that is durable and usually translucent. This resin comes in two parts: resin and a hardener. When these two parts are mixed together, a reaction occurs turning the epoxy solid. Resin jewelry is extremely unique because of the variety of color pigments and materials ranging from shredded cash to diamonds that we incorporate into the resin.

Trustone

Trustone is a form of resin and is a beautiful and unique material made from natural stone ores. These stone ores are crushed, pigmented, and then stabilized in acrylic resin. Similar to Fordite, each TruStone ring we make will have unique patterns and web-like designs, making each ring one-of-a-kind. The stability of the acrylic resin ensures a strong and durable ring.

Wood

We work with a variety of types of wood at Patrick Adair Designs ranging from Cherry wood to 5000 year old Bogwood. Every wood ring will have a unique pattern and shade depending on the source of the wood. All of our wood rings are stabilized to protect the wood from water as well as to increase the overall durability of them.
