All About Custom Glowstone Rings
All About Custom Glowstone Rings
In many fantasy settings, rings have certain attributes or powers associated with them. Anybody who's read the Lord of the Rings trilogy recalls the role of the one ring and its power of invisibility.
In many video games, you can equip rings to give you certain upgrades. Some games even let you customize your rings, so you can make your character look more distinguished and powerful.
As enthralling as these fictional experiences can be, Patrick Adair Designs offers a real-life version that's sure to blow your mind. By designing a custom glowstone ring, you can capture the same fantastical look in a ring of your own.
In this article, we'll give you an in-depth overview of what a glowstone ring is and how to customize one. So, without further ado, let's get started!
What is Glowstone?
While several video games and fantasy novels feature something loosely known as glowstone, no such gem or stone exists in the real world. Our custom rings utilize several components to produce this amazing glowing effect. The actual substance in the ring that makes it glow is called strontium aluminate. It's completely harmless and not radioactive. How it glows is through exposure to a UV light source, like the sun! Once it's been sufficiently exposed, you can take your ring into the dark and marvel in its glow. We offer a variety of glow colors with some colors glowing stronger than others!
Along with strontium aluminate, our glowstone rings can be broken down into these key components: Daytime Color pigments, Inlay Materials, and Metal base. We allow you to customize your own glowstone ring based off of these four components to truly come up with something one-of-a-kind that speaks to you. We've discussed the Glow powder (strontium aluminate) so let's talk about the other things that go into our Glowstone Rings!
The daytime color pigments are pretty self explanatory. If you choose a black daytime color, then your ring will look black when it's not glowing (during the day). We allow you to choose multiple colors if you want a swirl or a mix instead of just one color. We can also do a translucent clear base (uncolored)! If you are still a bit confused about the difference between Glow Color vs Daytime Color or how those two colors affect each other, check out our helpful blog post, here.
Now let's move on to inlay materials! This is arguably the most exciting and customizable part of our glowstone rings. We offer a variety of different inlay materials from opals, exotic metals, and birthstones. Some of the more eye-catching materials that are standard are diamonds, meteorite, and lapis lazuli. The combinations and possibilities are endless and if you don't see something that is readily available on the website, you can reach out to us and the chances are we can do it if it's a common material/gemstone!
Lastly, we have the band itself. A glowstone ring is essentially a metal band with an inlay channel of"glowstone" composed of Glow Powder, Daytime Pigments, and Inlay Materials. Maybe the most important customization for our glowstone rings is the metal band itself.

Which Wedding Band Metal is Right For You?
If you browse through your options for glowstone rings, you'll notice that you have several choices of metals for your ring's base material. In this section, we'll outline a few of those materials and their respective benefits.
Tungsten-Carbide
Tungsten-Carbide, or Tungsten, comes in a beautiful silver color that has a beautiful shimmer to it when polished. Tungsten is an excellent choice for a ring base for several reasons. First, it avoids using metals that many people have an allergic reaction to, such as nickel. There's virtually no chance of this ring causing any allergy symptoms and is hypoallergenic.
Another reason to select tungsten is its durability. Tungsten is a tough metal that is both scratch-resistant and unlikely to break. Furthermore, tungsten is one of the most affordable ring materials on the market. Compared to precious metals like gold, rose gold, and even silver, this ring is far more cost-effective.
There are some cons to tungsten rings, however. The biggest drawback of tungsten rings is that you can't resize them due to their hardness. The other problem is that tungsten rings can crack, although it is extremely unlikely to.

Titanium
Titanium is another great option if you are looking for a shiny silver colored band. Titanium is a top-notch metal choice, especially for a men's glowstone wedding band. Titanium has several benefits, such as its lightweight properties. Titanium is a lighter choice than most precious metals, weighing less than gold or silver. It's also lighter than metals like Damascus steel or tungsten, making it a perfect choice for those who don't love the heft and feel of jewelry on their fingers.
As you may already know, titanium has a reputation for being a durable metal. It's high-quality strength makes it a more durable option than solid gold and even tungsten.
However, this strength does not necessarily mean it's scratch-resistant. Titanium is less likely to scratch than gold but not as scratch-resistant as tungsten. It can scratch, specially if you work with heavy machinery and in this regard, tungsten outperforms titanium.

Ceramic
When people hear the word ceramic, they often associate it with pottery materials made from clay. In jewelry, though, ceramic refers to titanium carbide, a mixture of titanium and carbon. We offer ceramic in both a black and white color. Most people will choose the black ceramic as an alternative to tungsten and titanium since both of those options are only available in a silver color.
This ring metal outperforms regular titanium by being entirely scratch-resistant while sharing the same lightweight properties as titanium. Another reason ceramic makes a great choice is for its easy maintenance. Some warm water and a little soap are all you need to keep this ring glossy and clean.
The primary flaw in this ring is that you cannot resize it. Similar to tungsten, it can also crack if an extreme amount of force is presented to it.

Cobalt Chrome
If you are looking for a little bit more of a luxurious option, Cobalt Chrome is a great choice! Cobalt Chrome is a super-alloy often found in jet turbines and medical implants due to its durable and lightweight properties. It will never oxidize/tarnish and is completely hypoallergenic, making it a great choice for an every day ring. On top of that, it has an extremely white color similar to platinum and white gold. If it weren't for its light weight, one could honestly mistake it for White Gold!
Cobalt Chrome's durability is similar to tungsten-carbide in terms of scratch-resistance, but unlike tungsten, it is even more resistant to cracking from hard impacts.

Pros and Cons of a Custom Glowstone Ring
At this point, it should be clear that our custom glowstone rings are high-quality choices. However, you may be wondering why you should choose these rings over more traditional options. This concern may be especially prominent if you're considering these for a wedding band.
As you can tell from the previous section, our custom glowstone rings provide world-class durability and scratch-resistant. Each of these metals and materials is more scratch-resistant than gold alternatives. Another reason to consider a glowstone ring over other, more standard options is their affordability.
However, the best benefit these rings provide is their individuality. Each of our glowstone rings is a handcrafted item; no two rings are identical. Furthermore, these rings offer a distinguished, unique look for you and will surely be a conversation starter wherever you go.
If you choose these rings as wedding bands, their glow becomes symbolic of the way your love can be a light in dark times.
However, these rings do have some admitted drawbacks. If a traditional gold band appeals to you more, these rings likely won't cut it for you. Furthermore, most of them cannot be resized, which can pose problems. As people age, their fingers often swell, which could mean the rings don't fit.
Lastly, these rings come with a time requirement. Because they're handcrafted from scratch and not mass-produced, it takes time to complete these rings. This can also be seen as a positive since each and every ring is handcrafted with thought and integrity instead of just mass produced on an assembly line.
